C2 and South East London Lifelong Learning Network:

The South East London Lifelong Learning Network appointed C2 in 2009 to develop and deliver an impartial e-information, advice and guidance service to people who were considering progression into and through higher education.

Primarily aimed at vocational learners and employed people not attending a school, FE college or university, the service is also intended to act as a resource for advisers to this target group, with the ultimate aim being to ensure an increase in vocational learners’ progression to and through higher education.

From a practical perspective, the service provides an accessible and impartial source of information, advice and guidance for these prospective higher education learners as well as building on existing careers service expertise in handling queries and delivering information, advice and guidance to this group.

C2 are well placed to work to develop this website and provide careers information, advice and guidance through their team of qualified careers advisers. Our matrix accreditation officially attested to the quality and high standard of our services and we have a strong track record in delivering similar email advice services on behalf of professional bodies such as the British Medical Association, The Chartered Institute of Marketing and The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

C2 worked closely with the SELLLN project team to plan and develop the website. Whilst the brand ‘Take it Higher’ was being defined, all the technical arrangements, design and build of the website itself were taking place. A range of resource materials were provided by C2 including advice on job hunting, CVs, covering letters and job applications.

The website was launched in May 2009 and allows individuals to register on the website to request advice via email or telephone on getting into and through higher education. Once they have submitted their request it is answered by one of our professional careers advisers at C2 within two working days. The careers adviser will spend time undertaking appropriate research and writing a comprehensive answer to the user’s query, offering advice as well as additional sources of information to help them.

This website was live until August 2010 and throughout this period it continued to evolve, with additional information and content being added to ensure that it provided an excellent service to its users throughout the duration of the project.
