The Client

Central School of Speech & Drama (CSSD), a specialist conservatoire within the University of London, nurtures artists and performers. It’s special strength, unique in the sector, lies in a combination of first-rate practical training and production, with a highly ranked programme of research - research aimed at the cutting edge of new performance practice.

The Challenge

Central School of Speech & Drama contacted C2 to help provide a careers management programme for researchers. In their commitment to their PhD students they had secured Roberts funding to better prepare them for the world of work and due to the unique nature of the research projects were after specialised, bespoke support.

Our Solution

Taking into account the budget, C2 provided a ‘menu’ of options to CSSD, who consulted their researchers directly. Training focusing on PhD careers, applications and CV (both academic and non-academic), interviews and influencing skills was developed.

How

full day careers session was run allowing the researchers and the trainer to develop an understanding of each other. Material was adapted on the day as required to meet the researchers’ needs and the trainer facilitated discussions allowing participants to learn from each other’s experiences.

Feedback

"It was very useful mainly because of her method in delivering informative presentation and conducting well organized practices with students thereafter. Katie firstly itemized essential strategic tools for the application to the job and threaded them with actual cases of conducting interviews, which were simulated through role plays of participants"
